South Alabama softball freshman pitcher Devin Brown was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. This was the season’s first voting period.

During the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Brown went 2-1 with 29 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings. She recorded a one-hit shutout in her first collegiate start on Friday against Liberty as the Jags won 8-0 by the run-rule.

She has a 0.43 ERA to lead the team after allowed just three runs, and only one of them earned, on eight hits and five walks. She held opposing batters to a .143 batting average. She earned her first career save against McNeese State as she struck out both batters she faced to finish off a 5-1 Jaguar victory after coming in in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded.

Additionally, she struck out 11 against Houston on Sunday while only allowing one earned run as the Jaguars snatched the 3-2 win in the bottom of the seventh after coming-from-behind.
